Akkrum is een van de dorpen in de gemeente Heerenveen in de Nederlandse provincie Friesland. Het ligt naast het dorpje Nes, waardoor er ook gesproken wordt van Akkrum-Nes. Het dorp Akkrum telt 3311 inwoners (maart 2008).Het dorp is gelegen aan het riviertje de Boorne met het Leppa Akwadukt. Tot Akkrum behoort ook de buurtschap Oude Schouw. Sinds de opheffing van Boarnsterhim in 2014 maakt Akkrum deel uit van de gemeente Heerenveen.GeschiedenisAkkrum was tot de gemeentelijke herindeling in 1984 de hoofdplaats van de voormalige gemeente Utingeradeel. Hierin lagen ook de dorpen Akmarijp, Oldeboorn, Nes, Terhorne en Terkaple. Van 1984 tot 31 december 2013 was het onderdeel van de nu opgeheven gemeente Boornsterhem.VolksverhaalManke Meine en Kromme Knillis zouden rond 1400 een vaart gegraven hebben (nu de Boorne). Bij Akkrum kregen ze een meningsverschil en splitsten zich op en groeven de Kromme Knillis en Meinevaart. De reuzen zijn het beeld van het dorp
